I find myself yearning for spring, even though the weather is relatively gorgeous considering it's the start of February. But in a whiney spoiled way, it would NOT be gorgeous if it were May, and I'm yearning for it to be like May.
That said, I took a very pleasing (notice I didn't say "lovely") but too short bicycle ride yesterday on my freshly tuned road bike. OH, she runs like a TOP, a TIP TOP! So smooth and speedy, she was!
So yes, it is nice enough to ride a skinny tired bike in early February. I should stop my whining, but where's the fun in that?
Sunday, I took a nice 11-mile run. It was one of those runs where, about a mile or so into it, I realized I had on too much clothing. Nothing unbearable - about a 5 degrees Fahrenheit mistake. Still, I'd rather err on the side of "not enough" than "too much".
I located a photo on the internet of people riding bicycles and walking around in various stages of undress down a street in Miami. I now have it as my computer wallpaper. And by "undress", I don't mean nakedness. I just mean shorts and short sleeves and what seems like nakedness for this time of year in Colorado.

lovely
Had a lovely run this morning in 20 degrees and a huge moon. I mean, seriously, that moon was so bright, it hurt to look at it. And seriously, I need more adjectives than "lovely".
My heels were starting to bug me a few weeks ago, and I thought that maybe my feet felt that they were overdue for the plantar fasciitis wars. I threw out some old shoes I suspected of being the infiltrators, and my feet have been happy ever since. *sigh* I miss the good old days when I could wear any old things on the feet, but oh well.
Got my road bike all tuned up. Rims are trued, tire pressure is just right, and I got a new derailer cable out of the bargain. Unfortunately, it snowed this week, so I'm sticking with the mountain bike until the roads dry up a bit more. That's fine, though, because I do enjoy a good bicycle ride either way. And I'm also reminded that the mountain bike could use a good once over too.
That's all. Weather's "lovely", snow is melting, feet are happy.

TLC
Enjoyed a nice 11-mile run today. I hadn't done a double-digit run in a while, and actually, I felt I wanted to do a 12- or 13-miler, but since it's been so long, thought it best not to.
But it was lovely. It's windy today, but I liked being out in the elements. The sun set off the windness.
Yesterday morning, I did 5 miles and some push-pull-dip-sit-squat before going to work. That was lovely too.
This past week also saw more bicycling friendly weather, so I was happily out there. I haven't ridden the road bike in a while as there are still patches of ice and snow and mud around - more conducive to Bella the mountain bike.
The husband reminded me that the shop where I bought Tessa the road bike does free annual tune-ups January thru end of March. He took his bike and Chaco's down yesterday for their free tune-ups and is going to take Tessa in when he goes there later to pick the other bikes up. I feel good about her getting a good once-over.
Maybe I'll get a chance to ride her next week. Might as well make the most of our winter drought.

continuing
It's been a week since I've updated here, but I'm glad to say that it's not because I've been wasting away on the couch.
I have enjoyed more relatively warm days of bicycle commuting. Just yesterday, I had a very pleasant ride where I got a couple of things accomplished. I swung by the library as Wolfgang had a book there to be picked up. While there, I grabbed a couple for myself just before the power went out. Yes, the library had a power outtage.
It was kind of cute as there was a children's storytime going on, so the little imps got all excited. Then the novelty wore off and they were a bit bored with it I think.
I did 5-mile runs on Saturday and Sunday. Nice to be outside in relative warmth and iceless paths.
Tuesday, I did 9 miles on the treadmill, and I'm keeping with the PT and feeling quite fit. My husband says his pullup goal is 10, so I went ahead and set one for 8. We shall see. The saga continues.

OH, happy day(s)!
I finally have taken the poor neglected bicycle out of lockup!
The nasty wintry weather we have been... er... weathering for the last couple of months has finally given us a break. The clouds have parted, the sun is shining, the snow and ice are melting. It's a bicycle commuter's January dream!
So this week, I have been gleefully running errands atop good old solid Bella (the mountain bike for those who don't know my bicycles by name). There are still some icy/snowy patches about, but her big-boned-girl tires are not at all deterred.
The post office, the library, the grocery store, the bank... all have been visited by Bella and myself this week. It's wonderful, except I will say that these establishments could turn their thermostats down.
In other news, I've had a couple of uneventful runs since my last visit to the blog. Didn't do a long run last Sunday. My neice got married on Saturday, and I was recovering from the late nightness of that on Sunday. No hangover, mind you (I was driving). We did, however, go on a very nice family hike Sunday afternoon. Probably about 5 miles when all was said and done.
Snow and rain in tomorrow's forecast. Life goes on.

and... begin
I am tattooless no more, and so far, no regrets.
Yep, went and got the tattoo earlier this week. It's an original design of the tattoo artist after I explained to him more or less what I wanted. I'm very happy with it. Anyone need a tattoo artist/shop, lemme know.
Maybe I will eventually post a picture of it, but right now, it's freezing cold around here and I'm wearing about 3.5 layers of clothing and have no desire to remove any of them just to take a picture.
So anyway, as this is happening, he tells me that, prior to being a tattoo artist, he was a personal trainer. He told me this after commenting on my arms. Said something like, "not many women come in here and remove their shirt to reveal such muscle tone". Well, allrighty then! I guess that PT stuff is making a difference.
It's the time of year for making goals... well, actually, I guess it is NOW the time of year for implementing plans for reaching goals already done been made. I think I'm a little behind schedule. I haven't really made any specific goals yet.
One "resolution" I seem to make every year is to do better at meal planning. If I were to be a better meal planner, there would be less "just throw something together!" meals. I think I do okay with mostly having relatively healthy foods around, but I could always do better.
From a recent health screening at my husband's work, I learned that my cholesterol is 188. Still below the 200 threshold, but not by much. The HDL "good" cholesterol number was in the healthy range, though, so I guess I'm okay.
So today, I bought an egg poacher. Fried no more. It's a start.
